It is the preferred sand for use as a brick-and block-laying mortar, and for bagging. The yellow colour gives a grey mortar when mixed with GP Cement. Otherwise known as Pool Sand.

The fatty consistency of yellow brickie’s sand makes it ideal for use under pond liners and under above-ground pool liners, as it holds its shape well when compacted. The clay in the mix makes for a thicker, sticky consistency, which spreads and holds well.

Colour can vary in sands and if you need a consistent look or finish, be mindful to order all of the sand for your job in one batch. Future loads do not always share the exact same qualities or properties.

White brickie sand is used for making mortar for laying bricks and blocks. When mixed with off white cement produces an off white mortar.

This sand has the same fatty qualities as the yellow but is an off-white colour. Because of the clay content in the sand it is useful as mortar in block and bricklaying, as well as in bagging for walls. Like the yellow, its good compacting properties make it suitable for use under pools and pond liners, though the cleaner white colour is more usually sought for its off-white colouring effect.

As the name suggests, double washed white brickie sand undergoes a washing process to remove fatty clay content leaving a clean sand. This sand is appropriate for use in golf bunkers or blending with white brickie sand to reduce fattiness or sometimes used as concreting sand in roadside kerbs.

As the name implies, this is a coarse combination of washed river sand and 10mm Blue Metal. ‘Blue Metal’ is crushed basalt, screened to a variety of sizes. When combined with cement, sand and metal mix makes for sturdy, solid uses, like concreting post holes, or as a builder’s mix used in retaining wall construction, foundations, driveways and general concreting. With this as a concrete mix the finer river sand fills the gaps between the blue metal pieces and the cement fills the gaps in the sand, making for a solid combination.

For a stronger, better concrete mix again, we recommend mixing P. Course Sand with 20mm Blue Metal to your own preferred concrete ratio.

This course river sand has qualities of sharpness and grit, which allow grains to lock with each other and compact well. As a comparison, fine sands are too smooth to lock with each other in the same way. The course river sand is perfect for making sturdy, strong concrete, especially when combined with 20 mm Blue Metal. It has many building and landscaping applications.

P. Coarse Sand is also popular for use as potting mix or with garden soil as it helps to create better air and water filtration throughout the soil.
