This is a standard potting mix, with no fertiliser added. This Potting Mix is suitable for plants in pots or containers because they have a different flow of air and water available to them than plants growing in the ground. The mix is a blend of soil, sand and organic material such as decomposed bark fines. It has a slightly larger particle size to promote good drainage and aeration and avoid plant roots getting drowned in their containers. This mix is Ideal for green-thumbed patio garden enthusiasts, and for use in hanging pots and decorative planters.

We stock smaller quantities as well as have bulk potting mix available.

Our Native Mix is a beautiful blend of Soil, Sand, Ash Bark Fines and Duck Manure. It is suited especially to some natives, azaleas and camellias as it does not contain mushroom compost. Otherwise, it is much the same as Premium Garden Mix, but with less manure. Native Mix provides a good and safe alternative to Organic Garden Mix but is not recommended as a soil for Vegetable gardens, as it drains more readily and the veggies need more water. A better choice for them would be the Veggie Mix.

Cow manure is one of the best nutrients to add for most plants. Collected from the ground it is then screened to an even consistency. By way of contrast, product from pigs and domestic animals can contain parasites which can harm humans, and for that reason should not be used in compost or gardens.

The addition of this organic matter will serve as a good fertiliser for plants as well as helping your soil retain moisture and improving soil structure.

Mixing cow manure, one part to three with vegetative waste, will also allow the nutrients to hold better for use in the soil. Fresh product has a high nitrogen content, which might cause plants to burn, so composting and curing for a time, such as with our cow manure, is advisable.

Mushroom Compost is made of the compost which mushrooms have been grown in. The addition of this organic matter helps the soil to retain moisture, while also serving as a fertiliser for plants. Mushroom Compost is not guaranteed to be aged or composted, so be aware it can be very alkaline, especially when fresh, which can be harmful to some plants. Mushroom compost is not recommended for some native plants and for azaleas and camellias. Cow Manure is a better option in such cases.

This manure is collected from duck sheds and contains a mix of duck manure and bedding, which is usually comprised of shavings. It is not necessarily composted, but is not as strong a manure as others. By adding organic matter such as duck manure to your soil, you can help it to retain moisture. Duck Manure also serves as a good and safe fertiliser for most plants and does not smell too bad, especially when compared to chicken manure.

Blue Metal (5, 10, 20mm)

Blue Metal is a quarried, crushed aggregate rock that can range in colour from blue to black. It comes in three sizes: 5 mm, 10 mm or 20 mm, and is primarily used in making concrete. Because it is a clean, crushed rock, it is also ideal for drainage, particularly around agricultural pipes. Blue metal is a popular choice for constructing driveways or paths.
10 mm and 20 mm sized rocks are typically used when making concrete. The larger 20 mm size rocks work best to bind with cement or asphalt and form a better, stronger concrete. Generally, the 5 mm size is not recommended for such tasks, as it is considered too small to provide a desired stable base.
Please note that colours can vary greatly from load to load and this is a high turnover product, so what you see one day will be different the next. If colour is specifically important to you, you may wish to inspect the material prior to delivery and on the day of delivery. We recommend getting the whole quantity at one time, for consistency.
In short: Be sure to calculate and order all the materials required for your blue gravel driveway or other project in one lot, to avoid the variations in size and colour that can occur.
Turtle Nursery and Landscaping Supplies are your local Sydney blue metal suppliers. We have good, competitive blue metal gravel prices and 7-day delivery, Sydney-wide.

This is a quarried road base, typically blue to black in colour, and sized at 20 mm minus (meaning it includes material graded from 20 mm down to dust.) It comprises a mix of crushed rock particles and blue metal gravel.

As Road Base compacts well, it serves as a good bed below sand for paving and under decorative pebbles or decomposed granites. Generally, road base can be used anywhere you need a solid base before construction, especially for driveways or paths.

Compared with that of Blue Metal, the road base price is more economical when buying in larger quantities. Turtle Nursery and Landscaping Supplies offer a good, competitive road base price and Sydney-wide delivery, 7 days per week.

Metal dust is a compactable dust that comes from road base. Its grading is ‘5 mm minus’ and often called crusher dust, quarter minus (1/4 inch and less) or blue quarry sand.

Metal Dust is used to create a solid base, stabilising surfaces, particularly under water tanks and artificial turf, or generally where you want to avoid using solid rocks, for a smoother finish. It’s an economical product that can also be used as a sand for laying pavers and concrete products. Turtle Nursery and Landscape Supplies’ crusher dust prices are most competitive and you’ll find the added benefits of having our wide range of complementary products and supplies on hand right here.

Crushed Sandstone primarily used for compaction under roads and in construction.
Our Crushed Sandstone comes in 75 mm minus, but often some of the rocks can be a little bigger. The larger rocks in the crushed sandstone are great when you’re after a rougher looking finish. For this reason they are not the best suited for pathways.
Crushed Sandstone is used for rural driveways. The ‘minus’ grading indicates that smaller sized particles, down to dust, are also included in the mix.

DGB (Densely Graded Base) is similar to Standard Road Base but a cut above, as it is compliant with RMS specification 3051 and suitable for use a road base material under bitumen, in developments, sub-division, council roadways and so on.
It is sized at ‘20 mm minus’, which means it ranges from 20 mm down to dust in particle sizes.
For general use in pathways, driveways and gardens, where stricter compliance is not an issue, we recommend you use the Standard Road Base as a cheaper and easier alternative. It will usually suffice, unless your job specification demands DGB.
