“B” Grade Sleepers Used

2.4m $45

Used ‘B’ grade sleepers have the most rustic character of the sleepers. They are extremely worn from their years of service in railway constructions and thus have more aged, rounded edges and splits in places. By recycling these wood sleepers for sale we bring you the advantage of access to the ‘preloved’ charm of these older pieces. People buy railway sleepers of this quality level mainly for use in garden edging, to form a good barrier around beds.

Each railway sleeper has its own unique variations, so we highly recommend that you come in to inspect, prior to placing an order. Depending on your budget and the look you want to achieve, you may favour a higher grade sleeper (e.g. A or AA grades) so it is best to make a visual comparison to satisfy yourself of the quality level you are after.

Due to the wear on these lower grade sleepers their sizing is quite irregular, but typical sizes range as follows:

Width (210mm-230mm)
Height (100mm-130mm)
Length (2.4m-2.5m)

As availability is variable you may want to consider Treated Timber Sleepers or ACQ Softwood Sleepers.

‘A’ grade garden sleepers are a step up in quality from the ‘B’ grades, but still have the rustic charm of well-worn timber. These used sleepers often come with rounded edges and some splitting. They are suitable for garden edging, especially where you’re after an irregular, country-style finish.

Where a more solid and regular sleeper is needed (for steps or retaining walls for instance), we recommend the ‘AA’ grade railway sleepers. Sydney buyers enjoy our reliable and accessible landscaping supplies for all sorts of garden and building uses. As with all used sleepers, we recommend that you inspect prior to ordering, so you are happy that the quality suits your project’s specific needs.

‘A’ grade sizing is more irregular than in the higher grades, but for reference the size range is generally as follows:

Width (220mm-230mm)
Height (120mm-130mm)
Length (2.4m-2.5m)

As availability is variable you may want to consider Treated Timber Sleepers or ACQ Softwood Sleepers.

When you’re looking for treated pine sleepers, be aware that there are two different types of treatment. These pine sleepers are treated with CCA to an H4 standard to guard against decay and insects. CCA treated softwood sleepers are known for their greenish colour tinge. They are well-suited for building a treated pine retaining wall, making garden borders, raised garden beds and for general in-ground use. We stock a range of sizes to suit your needs.

CCA is not suitable where close contact will be made with the timber in its ongoing use, such as in garden furniture, picnic tables, exterior seating, children’s play equipment, decking boards or handrails. For such jobs, we recommend our ACQ (arsenic free) treated sleepers.
